    ZZZ’s and Qi

One in three American adults have trouble sleeping. But did you know that insomnia is your liver crying out for help! Traditionally, insomnia is most often the result of a liver and gallbladder imbalance.

This is especially the case when the person has trouble sleeping between 11 and 3 am, when the body is channeling its energy to gallbladder and liver. This means these organs are receiving their peak amounts of Qi or life energy.

Just as Western Science has established a circadian rhythm, so too, did Chinese healers, who maintained that each of the major organs receives optimal amounts of energy during a two hour period throughout the course of a day.

A weak liver and gallbladder cannot remain stable and relaxed during the hours of 11-3 am when they are receiving an abundance of energy. This is especially the case for those who have eaten before bed or consumed alcohol, or heavy and spicy foods.

Overeating, food additives, preservatives, artificial colors or foods that do not combine well can disturb the liver and therefore can keep you awake.

Bottom line, reduce acid forming foods, especially before bed time and catch some well needed ZZZ’s, your liver will thank you.

    Peace, Love and ZZZ’s,

    Carrot Ginger Soup

This is the perfect season for this yummy vegan soup!

    Ingredients:

    6-8 large carrots, chopped small
    2 onions, chopped small
    2 tsp fresh ginger, minced
    3 tsp curry powder
    3 1/2 cup vegetable broth
    2 14 ounce can
    coconut milk
    sea salt, to taste

    Preparation:

Simmer the carrots, onions, ginger and curry powder in vegetable broth for 20-25 minutes, until carrots are soft. Allow to cool slightly, and then puree in blender, working in batches
if needed. Return to heat and stir in coconut milk until well combined.

Season generously with sea salt, to taste.

Serve hot, or, chill until cold and serve as a gourmet vegetarian and vegan appetizer soup. This carrot soup will thicken as it cools, so if serving this vegan carrot soup cold, you may want
to add a bit extra liquid.
