    Pea and Mint

I love this recipe! It’s quick to make, vegan and so good that friends are surprised to hear that it’s mostly peas!

    Pea and mint “pesto”

1 10-ounce package of frozen peas, thawed
1 tablespoon of chopped fresh mint
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
    salt and pepper

Process the peas in a food processor until they’re roughly chopped. Stir in remaining ingredients.
Serve with a sliced, toasted bagette or sliced vegetables.
The recipe is very forgiving. I often don’t measure things when I cook and it comes out great every time.

    Warm Showers

Our impressions of people and places are influenced by something psychologists call psychological “priming”. We receive primes from everyday living: through words, through senses and more abstract sources. Yale University social psychologist John Bargh studies psychological priming, and has found that our minds correlate physical warmth and interpersonal warmth. For example, individuals holding a warm beverage or taking a warm bath are more likely to exhibit generous, trusting and social behavior. In contrast, individuals who are physically cold are more likely to express feelings of loneliness or distrust. Moreover, it seems we try to manage these influences in our world, such as counteracting feelings of social distance with long, hot showers.

This work suggests that our minds interpret the world somewhat metaphorically, and that we translate physical experiences into emotions and decisions. It’s a good reminder in this change of season to trust your instincts and stay warm, inside and out!

    Sunning Veggies

We all know how good the sun is for us but a new study from Rice University suggests that taking veggies out of your refrigerator and exposing them to light for 12 hours a day helps promote their anti-cancer effects. Eating them four and eight hours later gives you the benefit of those effects.
